Mission LiFE in spotlight for India Day at London Fashion Week 2024

The High Commission of India in London, in association with the London School of Trends and Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD), marked India Day at London Fashion Week February 2024 with yet another spotlight on Mission LiFE.

The collections taking to the catwalk were in tune with the sustainability movement spearheaded by the Prime Minister’s Office in India. The vibrant and eclectic designs showcased sustainable fabrics and weaving practices of India.

The student designers featured in last week’s London Fashion Week showcase included Nishtha Bansal, Navya Jain, Felicia Dcruz and Ridhi Kedia.

“A mix of Indian and western motifs and silhouettes delighted the audience of designers and fashion influencers at the show,” the Indian High Commission in London said.

The idea behind India Day has been to spotlight how upcycling, material optimisation, and waste reduction have been at the forefront of India's artisan practices for decades. And, how under the Mission LiFE movement, such practices are being revived and nurtured with an innovative approach by young designers in the country.

“Mission LiFE can become a mass movement of Environmental Conscious Lifestyle. What is needed today is Mindful and Deliberate Utilisation, instead of Mindless and Destructive Consumption," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow in November 2021.

It recognises that Indian culture and living traditions are inherently sustainable. The importance of conserving our precious natural resources and living in harmony with nature are emphasised in our ancient scriptures. The need of the hour is to tap into that ancient wisdom and spread the message to as many people as possible.

Mission LiFE seeks to channel the efforts of individuals and communities into a global mass movement of positive behavioural change.
