At a time when the traditional form of theatrical releases is something everyone is feeling deprived of due to the coronavirus lockdown, Zee5 Global is set to release a new comedy-drama called Ghoomketu as the biggest direct to digital release skipping cinemas altogether.

The platform is designed to premiere original content during the lockdown for Bollywood audiences, with a presence in over 190 countries.

Starring popular actor?Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the lead protagonist and co-starring his friend and award-winning filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, as well as actors Ila Arun, Raghubir Yadav, Swanand Kirkire and Ragini Khanna, Ghoomketu? is a classic story of a Bollywood dream. The story revolves around an aspiring writer from a small town in Uttar Pradesh, who runs away to the city of dreams and gives himself 30 days to try to prove his worth.

Quirky character

Siddiqui says: It is a quirky, never-seen-before character and I thoroughly enjoyed playing him. Anurag, who is generally behind the camera, will be seen sharing screen space with us and it was a great experience to work with him as an actor.

It has a phenomenal storyline which will definitely entertain the audience. During this time of the lockdown, I am glad that a humorous film that the entire family can watch is being streamed on ZEE5.

Kashyap adds: Every film is a labour of love and I saw the conviction in the director of Ghoomketu? and hence decided to do something which is my least favourite thing to do, which is act. The film is funny and heartwarming.
The film is directed by Pushpendra Nath Misra and literally means the journey to the beginning?.
This is a film where the protagonist a writer draws inspiration from the idiosyncrasies of his own family members. This film is a celebration of our family members, who we (Ghoomketu) always carry in our hearts, wherever we go, says Misra.

Live to Home

Besides film releases, the platform is also geared towards viewers who are missing out on live shows in the lockdown times with the rollout of Supermoon Live to Home? an international comedy and music festival bringing together some of the biggest artistes from across India in a series of performances for global audiences.
Archana Anand, Chief Business Officer, ZEE5 Global said: With the lockdown across markets, we see our audiences across the globe increasingly turning to genres like comedy and feel-good heartwarming stories to keep their spirits up.
