The third game in the five-match India vs England cricket Test series got underway with a great start for the hosts.
The Virat Kohli-led India team won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision that proved a disaster as England pacer James Anderson made his ball do all the talking, dismissing K.L. Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Kohli in quick succession at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds.
During the post-match press conference, Anderson said: "With both ball and bat, we've displayed exactly what we wanted to do. It doesn't get much better than that I don't think.
“These days don't come around very often so you just have to be happy when they do."
India, on the other hand, will be smarting from the bruising after having gained in a lead in the series with an impressive win at Lord’s last week. They were packed up for just 78 all out on day one, with England taking an easy batting lead in the game.
"We could have applied ourselves better. We can learn from it and only move on. That's all we can do as cricketers. You learn from your mistakes and improve," said India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant.
During England's innings, Mohammed Siraj responded to a section of English fans while fielding in the deep by gesturing “1-0”. After the day's play, a clip went viral on social media in which the India seamer can be seen gesturing the series score to the crowd after receiving a bit of stick from them.
England are looking to level the series with this game and have so far displayed some good form on the pitch for the third Test.
