Members of the Indian community in the UK gathered in large numbers outside the Indian High Commission in London on May 1 to show solidarity and support for India after the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed lives of 26 people.
The gathering was a counter-protest organised to outnumber a group of pro-Khalistan separatists and Pakistani demonstrators gathered across the road, with police officers on guard. The Indian diaspora raised slogans condemning terrorism and strongly denounced the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. They waved the Indian Tricolour and placards, voicing their unwavering support for national unity and the fight against terrorism.
It followed a similar counter-protest by British Indians over the weekend, when Pakistani groups gathered across the road from the Indian mission to attack so-called “Indian propaganda” over the Kashmir terrorist attacks on April 22.
Members of the Indian diaspora across the world have widely condemned the Pahalgam terror attack. Condolences have been pouring in from world leaders and members of the Indian community.
The issue was also raised in the UK Parliament this week, with MPs from all parties strongly condemning the killing of innocent tourists.

UK Foreign Office Minister Hamish Falconer said: “This escalation is unsettling for communities within the UK. British Pakistanis and British Indians are valued parts of our community, but we look to all community and faith leaders to spread the message that now is the time for coming together across religious and ethnic differences, not to play out the tensions between two states on the streets of the UK, and we will continue to send that message.”
Following the attack, India has taken several measures against Pakistan for its support of cross-border terrorism, including holding the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance and closing the Integrated Check Post at Attari.India has also decided to curtail the strength of Pakistan's High Commission.
