Akshay Kumar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ captures festive spirit

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, who has been busy promoting his latest release ‘Raksha Bandhan’ – out on August 11 to capture the festive spirit – got teary as he heard a surprise audio message from his sister Alka Bhatia on air.

Addressing him as ‘Raju’, she says in Punjabi: “I just remembered while chatting with someone that the festival of Rakhi is on August 11.

“You stood beside me at all times, good and bad. From being a father, and friend to a brother, you played all roles for me. Thank you for everything.”

‘Raksha Bandhan’is a comedy-drama film directed byAanand L. Raiand co-written byHimanshu SharmaandKanika Dhillon. The film is produced byZee Studios,Colour Yellow Productions, andCape of Good Films and besides Kumar in the lead, the film’s cast includes Bhumi Pednekar,Sadia Khateeb,Sahejmeen Kaur,Smrithi Srikanth, andDeepika Khanna.

Kumar has spoken of his special connection with director Aanand L. Rai: "If I were to describe Aanand sir, it would be a warm hug. That's what being around him feels like. He's someone who I feel is very honest and passionate about his craft.

“Hence, he won't make you do something which isn't being honest to the character of the film. What makes us click is that I feel we are very similar as people, simple living, love for food, can't sit idle, even if it's just Ludo, we play in our free time."

The actor also released some behind-the-scenes photos from ‘Raksha Bandhan’ ahead of the release this week. Kumar was seen hugging Rai and Pednekar with an eye-blink gesture and another where the director is seen hugging Kumar, reflecting their strong friendship.

The cast of ‘Raksha Bandhan’ have been on some grand promotional tours and started off with London and were recently Dubai, where promoted the film at Dubai Festival City.
