Arundhati Mukherjee

A film about a group of pregnant women meeting at a pre-natal class appears to be straight from Hollywood at first glance. However, Anjali Menon's multi-starrer English film 'Wonder Women' is about six Indian women going through their pregnancy and life's conundrums in Kozhikode, Kerala.

Always a rule breaker, writer-director Anjali Menon's films attempt to grip the audience with their freshness of ideas, impeccable storytelling and highly relatable characters. Best known for her movies, such as 'Bangalore Days' and 'Koode', Menon is making her digital debut with 'Wonder Women'. The much-anticipated film is all set for a worldwide digital premiere on Sony Liv on November 18.

The story begins when six women from different backgrounds meet for the first time at a pre-natal camp and goes on to explore life as it unfolds.

Going by the trailer, the film promises to offer a refreshing and sensitive take on women as various characters get to know each other and prepare themselves for motherhood, setting aside their differences.

Out-of-the-box thinking behind the film is evident in its promotions. As a surprise teaser campaign right before the film's trailer launch, Nithya Menon and Parvathy Thiruvothu had announced their pregnancy from their respective social media handles. Following massive fan adulation and social media frenzy, the record was later put straight by the director herself in a video post, revealing it to be only a film teaser and not the actors' actual pregnancy news.
