Avoid yo-yo diets to lose weight for good

Sujata Din

As we are now in the second half of 2021, I wanted to check how you are getting on with your wellness goals.

I get messages from people all over the world who want to lose weight. What they tell me is that they've done different diets and still nothing seems to work for them.

And I understand this as I have clients who previously tried counting calories, Weight Watchers, Cambridge Diet, Slimming World, meal replacement shakes, cutting grains, intermittent fasting, stopping sugar, etc. But they found that they could only do these diets for a short time and then the weight crept back up.

The reason I bring this up is, that now more than ever before, we all know that our health is a priority. And we also know that being overweight or obese increases the risk of many diseases including Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.

You don’t need me (or anyone else) telling you how important it is for you to look after yourself better and get to your optimum weight. But, at the same time, this is something I know many struggle to do on their own, because they don’t know what to do and how to make these changes.

And maybe you've tried doing it on your own too, you made a smoothie for breakfast or a salad for lunch, but that just was not enough to show you results. Maybe, you did it for a few days or weeks and then went back to your old habits.

So, you then tried the diet thing, maybe it was counting calories, reducing sugar or grains, and even had a go at Keto or intermittent fasting... but you still were not seeing results.

Then, when you get to this point you probably begin to wonder "Can I ever lose weight and maintain it?" It's not your fault that the short-term diets haven't worked.

Time to stop making the dieting mistakes and look for long-term solutions.
