Know India Programme opens 2023-24 schedule of diaspora outreach

The Know India Programme (KIP) is a special outreach initiative of India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), designed for diaspora youth aged between 21 and 35 years to be able to connect with their Indian heritage.

The primary objective of the KIP, which has already had 67 successful editions, is to foster a closer connection between diaspora youth and their ancestral homeland by enhancing their understanding of India. KIP provides a platform for the persons of Indian origin (PIOs) to familiarise themselves with contemporary India, through a three-week knowledge tourism programme providing them an exposure to different aspects of the growth and development of India.

“Know India Programme aims at empowering the global Indian diaspora youth with a profound understanding of India through immersive and experiential learning and fostering a global community of informed and engaged individuals who act as bridge between India and the world and a partner in India's growth and development,” the MEA said.

KIP is open to youth of Indian origin, excluding non-resident Indians (NRIs) in the age group of 21-35 years, as on the first day of the month in which the programme is expected to begin. The applicants should not have participated in any previous KIPs or any other programme organised by the Indian government.

The minimum qualification required for participating in KIP is at graduation-level from a recognised university or educational institution and applicants who have not visited India before will be given preference. The last date for applying for the 68th KIP programme is October 8, with further timelines to be unveiled for the 2023-24 tranche over the coming weeks and months.

Successful applicants will need to submit a medical fitness report or certificate confirming their ability to undertake long-distance and extended-duration travel and will need to submit a copy of a valid international travel insurance and medical insurance policy for the duration of their visit to India.
