The historic Royal Albert Hall in London is set to resonate with the vibrant sounds of India on Friday, 18 April 2025, as ‘Colours of India: An Evening of Indian Music Ensemble’ brings a rich tapestry of classical, contemporary and folk music to the Elgar Room.

Presented by Raga Jyoti Indian music ensemble, this unique performance promises a soulful journey through India’s musical traditions, with compositions inspired by afternoon, evening, and late-night ragas. Rooted in classical Indian music, yet infused with contemporary flair, the event will feature both vocal and instrumental improvisations in the traditional North Indian style.

The artistic force behind this ensemble is Dr. Rakesh Joshi, an acclaimed music composer, educator, and the creator of the Indian choir Bharatiya Vrund Gaan and the youth choir SHIVA. A versatile musician and scholar, Dr. Joshi holds a Ph.D. in Music from the University of Salford with a special focus on Indian choir, ensemble, and Vedic traditions. Trained by legendary maestros such as Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty and Shashank Fadnis, his compositions seamlessly blend the depth of tradition with modern sensibilities.

Over the past 24 years, Dr. Joshi has nurtured Indian music education in the UK through his work at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. As a performer and raga pianist, he has captivated audiences across India, the UK, Europe, and the USA. His ensembles have previously collaborated with Hallé, NYCGB, RNCM, and BBC strings players.

Joining him on stage for ‘Colours of India’ will be an ensemble of distinguished musicians:
