Madhavan rides high on ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ directorial debut

Popular film actor R. Madhavan has gone behind the camera with multilingual directorial debut, ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’, making waves in cinemas globally this week.

The film stars Madhavan in the real-life role of Nambi Narayanan and also features Shah Rukh Khan in its English and Hindi versions and Suriya in the Tamil version in key roles.

When asked about Shah Rukh Khan’s role in the film, Madhavan said: “Khan sahab is a legend, and I don’t dare say that I have a friendship with him. I am an admirer of his work and it will be too presumptuous of us to say that we are friends. We are not.

“I am just a huge fan of this man, and I think he is one of the nicest guys in the industry.

“He acted in the Hindi and English versions. He didn’t take money for either caravan or his assistants or his costumes, nothing. He came, and I was feeling flattered that he’s doing it for me. I know he did a lot for me and the script. I suspect there was a lot of respect for Nambi sir as well, and that’s the reason he did it.”

Tracing the life of Narayanan, renowned for developing the Vikas Engine – one of the most efficient, liquid fuel engines in the world today that continues to be a workhorse at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in almost every launch with the unique distinction of never having failed – the former ISRO scientist and aerospace engineer was inevitably embroiled in a spy scandal.

The semi-biographical drama tries to unveil the truth behind the mystery as it unravels in the form of an interview on screen by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya Sivakumar in different language versions of the film.
