Starring: Supriya Pathak, Manoj Pahwa, Chakori Dwivedi, Poojan Chhabra

Director: Aakanksha Dua

‘Indian’ and ‘middle class’ are the two streaks that are enough to rope in the audience for this Hotstar series set in the valley of Dehradun with a family of four – Sarla (Pathak), Umesh (Pahwa), Jigyasa (Dwivedi) and Naman (Chhabra) building their new home, brick by brick, literally.

Three months left before they leave from the government housing quarters, Sarla is all set to pour away her savings from her job as an astound English teacher at a government school reaching her retirement, into the furnishment of their house. Beginning the series with the usual chaos that is prefixed for every sitcom, the Joshis ultimately manage to inaugurate their humble abode.

Living together might look easy to the outside work with multiple sacrifices going unnoticed. As the floor plan is being decided, the members learn to grow away from their differential preferences and make significant compromises. Jigyasa’s individual bathroom and Naman’s private gym can be slashed for their parent’s study where Sarla fantasises about indulging in the works of Tagore and Tolstoy while Umesh lobbies the idea of writing his poems during cosy afternoons in the hills.

Not pushing too hard to inculcate life lessons, Aakanksha’s mini directorial hits the right tones of teachings and humour. Umesh’s conclusory poetry in every episode is nothing but a mere reflection of togetherness.
