Proud of your achievements: Jaishankar wishes Indian diaspora on Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas

India's Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, has extended his wishes to the Indian diaspora on the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, stating that India takes pride in the diaspora's achievements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his wishes, appreciating their dedication towards preserving our rich heritage and strengthening global ties is commendable.

As well as Jaishankar and PM Modi, others who extended greetings to the diaspora included prominent figures like India's Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

UK-based diaspora organisations like Friends of India Societry International UK (FISI UK) also extended their greetings to Indians in the UK who continue to form the living bridge between the two nations.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated on 9th January every year to mark the contribution of the Overseas Indian community to the development of India.

January 9 was chosen as the day to celebrate this occasion since it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi, returned to India from South Africa.

The event is sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs.
