Tributes from far & wide after singer KK's sudden death

Singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known as KK, passed away at the age of 53.

According to reports he collapsed during a concert at Nazrul Manch in Kolkata. He was brought dead at Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) on June 1 at around 10:30 pm (local time).

One of the most versatile singer of Indian film industry, KK has recorded songs in several languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, Malayalam, Assamese, Bengali, Marathi and Gujarati.

He is best known for his songs like 'Zindagi Do Pal Ki' from the movie Kites, 'Ankhon Me Teri' from the movie Om Shanti Om, 'Khuda Jaane' from Bachna Ae Haseeno, 'Tadap Tadap' from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and many more.

He is survived by his wife and children.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the death of the singer and said that people will remember him through his songs.

He tweeted, "Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti."

Information and Broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur mentioned that the news of KK's sudden death is shocking. "Shri Krishnakumar Kunnath (KK) has made a different place in the hearts of people with his excellent singing. The news of his sudden death is shocking. I am very sad... KK was a talented and influential singer. His passing away is a great loss to the music world which is impossible to compensate," he wrote in a tweet.

Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal wrote, "Some voices never die. #RIPKK"

Several celebrities from the Indian music industry paid heartfelt tributes.

Popular singer and a Padma Shri recipient Sonu Nigam took to Instagram and wrote, "KK mere bhai, not done." Notably, the popular Bollywood song 'Mehki Hawaon Mein' was sung both by KK and Sonu Nigam.

Singer Shreya Ghoshal, who is a recipient of four National Film Awards, tweeted, "I am unable to wrap my head around this news. Numb. #KK Why! This is too hard to accept! Heart is shattered in pieces."

As per latest reports, the auditorium in Kolkata where singer KK's concert was held was overcrowded. Kolkata Police have registered a case of unnatural death in connection with the sudden demise of singer KK.

Meanwhile, the family of the singer arrived in Kolkata on June 1. The mortal remains of KK will be handed over to the family after the post mortem.

A probe into the matter is underway. Investigators are waiting for the preliminary report of the post mortem.
