India Global Forum’s UK-India Week, which begins next week, will commemorate the devastating loss of lives following the Ahmedabad-London Air India Flight 171 crash.

As an annual stock-take of the strength of the bilateral ties, boosted by the diaspora living bridge, IGF announced the significant poignancy that the event takes on in the wake of the tragedy impacting both nations and beyond.

In a statement, IGF Founder and Chairman Manoj Ladwa said: “We are already seeing the United Kingdom and India standing shoulder to shoulder — providing technical, logistical, and moral support in the spirit of solidarity and shared humanity. At times of sorrow, our nations instinctively reach out to one another, as we have done so many times before.

“As we come together next week for our annual UK-India Week, we will take a moment to reflect on this loss—commemorating those who perished, and reaffirming our commitment to the living bond between our countries. In the face of such tragedy, we remain resolute in our mission to deepen understanding, foster connection, and ensure that even the darkest moments inspire renewed purpose and unity.”

From the UK Parliament to the temples, members of the Indian diaspora have been coming together in grief and mourning as Air India confirmed that the 241 passengers and crew on board the Boeing Dreamliner had tragically lost their lives in the crash on June 12. British Indian Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who was on his way back to his family in Leicester, is the sole survivor of the devastating crash.
