London filmmaker Karan Kandhari’s ‘Sister Midnight’ to hit UK cinemas in March

Altitude Films have just released the trailer for ‘Sister Midnight’, the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) nominated debut film from British Indian writer-director Karan Kandhari, ahead of its March 14 cinema release in the UK and Ireland. The dark comedy features a stand-out performance by acclaimed actress Radhika Apte, known for her hard-hitting performances in films such as ‘Pad Man’ and ‘Andhadhun’.

The film centres around a newly arranged marriage. An oddball couple shoved together in a small Mumbai shack with paper-thin walls. They are awkward and alone-together. Unpredictable Uma (Apte) does her best to cope with the heat, her total lack of domestic skills, nosy neighbours and her bumbling spouse until the nocturnal world of the city and its inhabitants lead her to face her own strange behaviours.

Nominated for Outstanding British Debut at this year’s BAFTA Awards, ‘Sister Midnight’ was a hot ticket at the Cannes Film Festival where it was nominated for the Golden Camera award and in Director’s Fortnight.

Also nominated for four BIFA awards, the film won Best Picture in the Next Wave Award at Austin’s Fantastic Fest and was warmly received at festivals across the globe. The film will have its Irish premiere at the Dublin International Film Festival this week before its release in Ireland next week.
