It’s great to be back In Conversation on iGlobal – this time with more of a multi-media approach. In this latest edition of exclusive conversations, my guests will be sharing their experiences, opinions and wisdoms.

I hope you find these free-wheeling conversations engaging, enlightening in parts and enjoyable. I would love to hear from you through our social media channels about subjects you would like covered, topics you may want a deeper dive into and, indeed, a wish list of guests.

We launch this week with the insightful entrepreneur and cosmetic formulator Dr Vanita Rattan – Dr V – who dedicates her life to helping people with skin of colour achieve their skincare goals, by tackling a range of specific skin issues that are insufficiently addressed by the traditional cosmetics industry.

When I caught up with her, we talked about her motivations, that uniquely South Asian entrepreneurial gene and also neurodiversity and dyslexia – something I am all too familiar with too.

“I always saw myself as a problem solver and I wanted to do it on a mass scale, and so the best way for me to do that was with business. But I also wanted my medical education – I think it's a fantastic degree, a fantastic foundation,” says Dr V.

When I ask her if she thinks being dyslexic has allowed her to see and create opportunities in places that maybe other people may not have seen, she agrees that it is about “thinking outside the box”.

“I would say growing up, I really struggled… Being children of immigrants, there was a very high expectation for you to succeed,” she shares.

However, soon this was to become her power: “I think that the pain and the shame that came from dyslexia fuelled me.”

Do watch the full video interview above for many such inspiring nuggets from one of the most successful British Indian female role models out there today.
