For anyone who has grown up watching Tom & Jerry cartoons, this Warner Bros part-animation and part live-action makeover is sure to be an attraction. And, what’s more, it has a central big fat Indian wedding theme complete with bejewelled elephants and all.
One of the most beloved rivalries in history is reignited when Jerry (the mouse) moves into New York City’s finest hotel on the eve of “the wedding of the century” forcing the event’s desperate planner, Kayla (Moretz), to hire Tom (the cat) to get rid of him.
The ensuing proverbial cat and mouse battle threatens to destroy her career, the wedding and possibly the historic hotel itself. But soon, an even bigger problem arises: a diabolically ambitious staffer (Pena) conspiring against all three of them.
All of this plays against the backdrop of Preeta (Sharda) and Ben (Jost) tying the knot in a wedding extravaganza that seems to be losing all sense of proportion. It brings the couple to breaking point but with Tom and Jerry agreeing to bury their decades-old hatchet to try and get the lovers reunited, there seems to be some hope on the horizon after all.
Will the fabled cat and mouse rivalry be brought under control by Kayla and a warm-hearted hotel manager (Delaney) or will the chaos generated from their antics overshadow the big fat Indian wedding to destruction?
This film makes no attempt at any serious plot-driven drama but instead is an out and out fun-filled and entertainment-packed offering that will take you a roller-coaster ride of beautiful imagery and scenic shots of the Big Apple. The part-animation mode, with most of the animals adopting CGI avatars on screen, adds to the light-hearted approach and a few minutes in, you may even forget that those characters aren’t very real.
On the whole, if you are on the lookout for an easy viewing option which does not tax your mind but relaxes it instead, then this stress-buster film is the just the answer.
