A healthy, nutty chocolate twist for Diwali this year

With Diwali just a few weeks away, you may already be planning and preparing for it. Diwali for many of us is about family gatherings and often revolves around food.

We tend to buy snacks, either sweet and/or savoury ones, to enjoy ourselves and also to gift to our family and friends. The traditional sweet ones include barfi, ladoo, halwa, etc which usually are unhealthy, because they are high in sugar and fat.

I know we all look forward to this time of the year, so you don’t need to be on a restrictive diet during the Diwali festivities to be healthy. Instead you can begin making a few simple swaps – instead of buying your sweet snacks and desserts, can you make some healthy snacks at home which taste delicious and have less sugar and fat than some of our traditional ones?

Over the next few weeks I will be sharing some recipes with you and the first one that I want to share with ‘iGlobal’ readers is one of my favourite snack recipes as it has both chocolate and nuts, which I love.

This Chocolate Nut and Seed Bar is a delicious crunchy snack made with ingredients that you can buy easily and will satisfy your sweet and chocolate cravings.

The puffed brown rice and seeds are both a good source of fibre. And to sweeten it, instead of refined sugars am using honey, a natural sweetener and some dried fruit.

And the dark chocolate topping reduces sugar content, as dark chocolate has less sugar than milk chocolate.

It takes some time to make this, but it is definitely worth it.

I know this year Diwali will be very different all over the world as we can’t have the larger social gatherings that we love and are accustomed to. But, we can still make it a special day for ourselves and loved ones by making something healthier that they will enjoy eating.
