UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer made an appeal for dialogue and de-escalation in a statement in the House of Commons this week even as Indian diaspora groups rallied behind India’s Operation Sindoor, a set of targeted strikes on terrorist camps in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Starmer said: “Rising tensions between India and Pakistan will be of serious concern for many across Britain.

“We are engaging urgently with both countries, as well as other international partners, encouraging dialogue, de-escalation and the protection of civilians.”

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: “The UK was clear in its condemnation of the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam last month. We need all sides to work urgently to see regional stability restored and ensure protection of civilians.

““The safety of British nationals in the region will always be our priority. The FCDO continues to monitor developments closely and stands ready to support any British nationals 24/7. Any British nationals in the region should follow the FCDO’s travel advice for the country they are in, along with the advice of the local authorities.”

Friends of India Society International (FISI) UK and INSIGHT UK were among the diaspora groups to express solidarity with India as it struck the terror camps through precision capability, with the use of niche technology weapons. It came in the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attacks in Kashmir which claimed 26 lives last month.

“India’s stance is clear, and its actions measured. It is defending the principles of democracy, rule of law, and the safety of its citizens – principles we all cherish. Your voice in Parliament can make a significant difference in shaping a united and resolute global response,” said FISI UK, in an urgent appeal to members of Parliament.

INSIGHT UK stated: “Supporting India’s fight against terrorism aligns with the broader goal of protecting human rights globally, as terrorism is an attack on the very foundation of democratic societies and human dignity. Stand with India in this war on terror.”

Other groups also took to social media to express their solidarity with India, with #OperationSindoor soon trending among British Indians.
