Are all smoothies really good for us?

Are all smoothies really good for us?

If there is one thing that I do enjoy, it’s smoothies. And it’s having a variety of smoothies, especially during the summer, made with my favourite fruits. They are refreshing, cooling and packed with nutrients.

Smoothies have become popular and are often marketed as a health food. This trend has grown with smoothies being sold in supermarkets and also being served at cafes and restaurants.

What’s best is that they are quick, easy and convenient to have, so you can include more vegetables and fruits in your diet.

Smoothies are also an easy way to disguise some foods that you really don’t enjoy eating. So, for instance, if you don’t eat leafy greens, you can still include these in your diet! So even one smoothie a day, over time, can make a difference to your health.

I’ve shared many smoothie recipes with you and I hope you have tried some of these. I often get questions about smoothies, especially how to make them healthier.

Are smoothies healthy?

Have you ever wondered if having smoothies is actually good for you? The answer is, it really depends on what goes into making your smoothie. When made with the right ingredients, they are one of the best-balanced foods to include. However, if you are making smoothies with mainly fruit, fruit juices or sweeteners they are then high in sugars. And, even if these are a natural sugar, you don’t want to be consuming too much sugar.

Another thing that needs to be considered is the portion size of the smoothie. Plus, do ensure that your smoothies help get you to your health goals. So, if you want to lose weight, you need smoothies that are satisfying and take care of your sugar cravings, give you the nutrition that you need.

You may have read that green smoothies are good for you, so you tried a few but just didn’t like the taste, then gave up. Smoothies don’t need to be green to be healthy, they can be any colour, so don't let the green colour put you off smoothies.

So, how do you gain all the benefits of smoothies without risking falling into common pitfalls?

As I get questions like these all the time, I decided to create a smoothie workshop!
