British Indian musician Navin Kundra has made a mark for himself as an all-round entertainer – be it crooning at a concert, cheering us up with online shows during a pandemic or taking to the stage with hit musicals.
This conversation happened soon after the talented singer-songwriter turned 40 recently, a milestone birthday that he confesses to have briefly had mixed feelings about before embracing all the positives that it signifies.
“I think looking back now, I can say 40 is a privilege,” reflects Navin, in this candid and moving chat.
“I still want to achieve loads. I still want to entertain everyone. My voice is in the best shape it's ever been. They say wine tastes better as it ages – ageing like fine wine. I think it's the same with the voice. And the songwriting, the things I'm writing right now are a bit more deeper,” he shares.
It is obvious that Navin feels humbled about his craft, with a concert series devised especially as an ode to the musical greats of Hindi cinema whom he was inspired by as an artist.

“I created this whole concert series called ‘Voice of Legends’, which was me going back to my roots and paying tribute to all the singers that made me want to sing,” says Navin.
During this very engaging conversation (video above), the light-hearted moments gave way to some quite serious musings and how the healing powers of music can help tackle many of our mental health struggles.
As Navin puts it: “Music has this amazing ability to connect you back to your true self, your real self, because life can beat you down a little bit.
“If you want to remember who you are, go back to the music that you grew up with. That will always take you back to your core.”
