‘Maharashtra Shahir’, which released recently, has taken social media by storm as one of the most talked-about films in the Marathi film industry this year.

The film documents the life and achievements of the renowned playwright, singer and folk artist Krishnarao Sable, popularly known as Shahir Sable. He is also credited for re-popularising folk musical and dance forms such as Powada and Lavani throughout the Indian state of Maharashtra as well as joining the independence movement by writing and composing patriotic songs with catchy tunes.

The ensemble cast features the likes of ‘Duniyadari’ and ‘Ti Saddhya Kay Karte’ fame Ankush Chaudhari; loved television and film personality Nirmiti Sawant and ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli’ and ‘Farzand’ fame Mrunmayee Deshpande. The film also sees the debut of Sana Kedar Shinde – the great grand-daughter of Shahir Sable – who will be playing the lead opposite Chaudhari.

A musical track from the film – ‘Baharla Ha Madhumas’ – sung by Ghoshal and Ajay Gogavle and released earlier this year had already garnered over six million views on YouTube and become a widely popular trend before the film’s release. Several popular names from the Marathi as well as Hindi film industries took part in the trend, including celebrities like Amruta Khanvilkar and Sunil Barve.
